... Eventually, while snooping around the strangely opulent doctor's clinic, he went into the basement and found a girl, later named Krystal. She could only say basic phrases and was extremely pale, as though she'd never been in the sun. He interacted with her and tried to talk to her, though he made little progress. He told his teacher and the other physicians about the girl. In response all of them besides his teacher flew into a rage and he was slapped. He was forbidden to speak to the girl and was told to keep her a secret from anyone else. Later, he asked his teacher about her identity and he was told that she was a gravely ill patient that had to be quarantined. Kellis didn't believe that excuse, so he often snuck down there. Over the years they became close, Kellis seeing a lot of himself in her and thinking of the girl as a younger sibling. He worked dutifully to gain the trust and respect of his colleagues, though his hard work only resulted in resentment and jealousy from his older peers. Eventually, Kellis discovered that the girl was the source of his peers and now, his teacher's, success at healing the village, and plotted to run away with her. He told Tommund and Mira that he was planning to run away, and though he insisted that they stay in the village, they snuck out anyways and planned to meet him after he'd freed the girl. However, his colleagues, including his teacher, were suspicious of him for quite some time, and not wanting the plague to return to the village, planned to silence him. He was lured into the forest by his teacher, held down by the physicians, and stabbed to death. His body was then dumped into a nearby pond.
